Apple Podcast Subscriptions: We're All In!
Two more people signed up! That's a bigger deal than you think.
Two more people signed up for Caloroga Shark Media+, our subscription offering on Apple Podcasts.
Two doesn’t seem like a lot, but I will take two new subscribers a day.
If we get two a day, that would be 730 people in a year.
John, that doesn’t sound like a lot.
Well, 730 people at $4.99 a month (that’s $3.50 for us after the middleman takes their cut). Let’s see 730 times $3.50 times 12 months. That’s $30,600. Did I do the math right? I hope so, or this post will be pretty embarrassing. Yeah, lazy math is 700 people at 5 bucks would be 3500 a month, times 12, is like high 30s, give Apple their cut…yeah $30K.
This would be a good time to try to convince you to subscribe, but I haven’t figured out how to send someone to a channel yet, So here, go to 5 Daily Trivia Questions and you’ll see the option.
What do you get for this $4.99? You get the shows without interruption. As we head forward we will add bonus content, such as the wonderful weekly bonus episode of Palace Intrigue hosted by Royal Insider Deep Crown, which has already debuted.
We’re pushing this aggressively, running pre-rolls for it for six weeks. So far, its very encouraging.
The challenge I’m having is in getting the ad-free episodes to the consumer before they go looking for it.
You see, some podcasting hosts (by hosting I mean the place where the file lives, not the host talking) have Delegated Delivery which means the creator can publish new free and premium episodes with the ability to schedule the release of exclusive, early access, bonus, and ad-free content. In other words - when you load the normal episode you’re also loading the Apple Podcast Subscription version.
Unfortunately, our hosting service doesn’t have it yet.
I love our hosting service. Great monetization. Super great customer service. Hopefully they add delegated delivery.
In the mean time the solution is: I get up and manually upload the shows. Yeah, I know, not the best solution. It leaves a pesky gap between 3:05am Eastern (when we publish) and when I get out of bed and actually do it, which usually is before 7:30am eastern.
Anyway, we’re all in and once the hosting service adds Delgated Delivery, I will sleep until 8 on the weekend.
Just one more thing…
We’re looking for some input on our Romance Weekly podcast. Ladies, please take this quick survey about whether or not you want the voiceover to be male of female. Thanks!
I actually wrote an upcoming four season arc for Romance Weekly this morning, and it came out GREAT. It takes place in Paris during The Untrademarked Games and…well..no spoilers. We’re between seasons now but catch up. Hey, you can even listen commercial free if you subscribe via Apple Podcasts. And please invite 700 friends!
I will back tomorrow with some more thoughts about Podcasting 2.0
And now it’s time to SPOT THE TYPO! Remember, Spot the Typo is a game we play where you read the newsletter closely to spot the typo. It’s not that I looked this over three times and missed it. It’s a game! Whoever spots the most typos by the end of the year wins.
