Nuclear War, Too Spicy Ramen and Value 4 Value's big problem (WILT Wednesday)
Some Podcast recommendations for you. What I'm Listening To (WILT)
This week on What I’m Listening To
Let’s start with the heavy podcasting stuff. I enjoyed this first one from the Future of Podcasting, as Daniel J. Lewis tried out several Podcasting 2.0 apps. I have gone on a similar journey, and I have yet to find a solution for my personal needs. No matter what, I keep coming back to Pocket Casts.
My morning routine now is to listen to our in-house stuff on Apple, whose interface I can’t stand, but I want “charts credit” for our shows. Then I use Pocket Casts for my civilian listening.
FWIW, I have determined that you should DOWNLOAD on Apple Podcasts if you actually want to listen to things. If you fat finger at all, it’s really difficult to find your way back to what you were listening to. And if you listen to some of an episode, intending to go back to something you have STREAMED, I find it difficult to find the show. So DOWNLOAD on Apple. and then at least you know where to find the things that got lost in their horrible queuing system. Come on Apple, acquire Pocket Casts and steal their UI. (When I come up for air I plan on writing about the whole streaming vs. download thing, and I think streaming is unreliable - Team Downloads!!!) But hey Apple is good at embeds. See below.
Anyway, speaking of apps…
Podcasting 2.0, or more specifically Value4Value right now has a major problem, as explained here on the Podnews Weekly Review. I wanted to pull the transcript but I am just out of time, so I will refer you to the 47 minute mark. The TLDL is that it has gotten harder to fund a wallet (to stream sats to your favorite podcaster) and James and Sam explain why.
Kate Middleton returned! Our royal insider at Caloroga Shark Media and Palace Intrigue had been tipping us off all week that Kate would appear at Trooping The Colour, and he was right in saying that the media had the story wrong (they were saying she would sit it out). Deep Crown is an interesting cat, and has his own substack.
The Rest is Entertaiment discussed why concert tickets cost so much. While there wasn’t all that much new information (to me, at least) it’s a good primer on such things, and a good podcast.
As someone who has had a tiny dot on my arm turn into a giant shark bite scar now, I have rescinded my Jimmy Buffett lifestyle and now listen to podcasts in the shade.
Check out Sunburn, Suntans and Sunscreen from Stuff You Should Know which explains that not all clothing is made equally and you can still burn.
On Daily Comedy News I did an hour with Jason Zinoman who is the Critic-At-Large for the New York Times. We talked all things stand-up comedy, and my P1s really liked this one. This week, on Saturday, I will talk with the host of The Letterman Podcast. And of course, Daily Comedy News is daily….usually around 12 minutes, but for the summer I am doing longer pieces on the weekend.
Thanks to some great placement on Pocket Casts, 5 Daily Trivia Questions is having quite the week.
Did you hear about the Spicy Ramen that got BANNED? It’s one of today’s 5 Good News Stories!
And let’s end with Doom and Gloom!
And if the war happens, go here!
If you have enjoyed this and are on the Substack app, please restack this with a comment…and any recommendations are truly appreciated.
