Another podcast with 21 people working on it (Podcasting)
What I'm Listening to Wednesday includes James Bond and some takes on video podcasting
I am still catching up on my What I Listened To In Antarctica (hey, when the ship is rocking for two straight days on The Drake Passage you spend a LOT of time lying down listening to podcasts)….
I enjoyed this discussion of what’s going on with James Bond. The TLDL is that Amazon wants to “exploit the IP” (my words) and the Broccoli family just wants James Bond to be James Bond.
But but but but….I got to the end and WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING PEOPLE? Look at the amount of people working on a 24 minute show about what’s happening with James Bond. I’m sure this is the best researched version of the story, with the most meticulous editing, but look at this (via Apple’s presumably accurate transcript).
There are 21 people in the first paragraph alone. I’m going to pay them each a terrible salary of $10,000 a year with no benefits. That’s already $210,000 and I’m going to assume they make more than ten grand.
Again, I’m sure it’s the highest production quality one can even imagine…but boy I don’t know how that budget works.
On a similar note, The School of Podcasting asked “is video worth it?” I will answer.
No.
But if you’d like a longer discussion, this is a good listen.
Bandrew Says is a fun enough show. I don’t care about the gear he discusses (which is kind of the point of his show) but I like his hot takes on the greater industry. In this one, he discusses if being a YouTuber is worth it.
Joe Rogan doesn’t really need my help promoting him, but this discussion of drones was a good one.
And a plug for Daily Comedy News which is hosted and written by John McDermott. Our editor is John McDermott using Descript. Our engineering team is John McDermott using a USB mic straight into a MacBook Air. Original theme music by John McDermott. Cheesy crowd applause sound effect from Apple Logic Pro loops. The show turns a profit every month.
