Podcasts on the Beach and an automated World Cup show that is NOT slop
A reminder that podcasts aren't cheaply produced talk shows in zoom boxes
That was my view the other day as I listened to podcasts. I thought to myself, maybe I should leave this beautiful beach on this warm day with low humidity and go inside to watch people in Zoom Boxes on Netflix. After coming to sanity, I stayed on the beach and listened to some things.
I REALLY liked Founding Fathers. This is the kind of podcast we used to have before we let the TV people hijack our word to describe often non-union cheaply produced television shows. Nice story telling. Some audio painting. You know, a podcast. A story for your ears. While you sit on a beach, or more honestly for this specific episode, walk the dog.
You may have heard that the United States is turning 250. I have been trying to get into it. If you check my Netflix queue you will find I have saved all sorts of things like the George Washington series and the Lincoln one and the FDR one and whatever else Netflix posed like three weeks ago. I haven’t watched one of them. But I am listening to Founding Fathers.
I really like what Noiser does. Last year they did one of my favorite podcast of the year, which honestly would have sucked as video because they would have been forced into talking heads and lame low-budget re-creations.
On a similar note, I also enjoyed this story of Admiral Yamamoto. This one I listened to while driving a car.
There are many ways you can tell stories…
…or like this…
Spielberg was on The Rest Is Entertainment. It wasn’t the deepest conversation I’ve ever heard, but sometimes sitting on a beach it’s just fine. Should we analyze their SEO strategy in this episode title?
People like to discuss AI Slop. Well, I think it can be done better than the Slop Company does. This episode of The Messi Effect was 100% generated, voiced, and uploaded by AI. I admit it I wrote the prompts. It’s a nice World Cup recap. It’s got some personality to it. Get mad if you want.
If you spend time with me I will talk about resources including Time, Money, Humans. I tried this podcast last year during the Club World Cup and it ate up too much time and humans (me). AI allowed me to bring back a dead feed and it sounds pretty good.
Welcome to the future.
Also remember this is as bad as the technology will ever get. Don’t let Slopco mislead you as to the possibility. Click on it. I stand by the work. Is it perfect? No. But it is close.
I am a human who wrote, hosted, edited and posted this next one. AI was used to make the show notes.
And from Norway….a royal family in chaos.
Marc Maron doesn’t seem too excited about podcasts on Netflix. He was on Kara Swisher’s podcast, and the Apple Podcasts transcript captured the below. Warning, swear words to come:
“When I saw podcasts on the menu of Netflix, I’m like, it’s fucking over. No one gives a shit about anything. The bar has been lowered to such a degree that people will sit at home and watch people on Zoom with half their fucking face covered up by a Shure SM7.
It’s like, what is wrong with fucking people? Do they not have any friends? Are they not curious about anything?
Do they not use their brain anymore? They can’t think. They got to have three idiots who are talking about the last time they shit themselves as adults, entertain them.
I mean, it’s like, it’s like a fucking world of drive time radio. It’s the worst.”

John, your work is all top and no slop!
I also think that Marc Maron has a very good point.
